Here is the recipe that I use with my updated formula with 1.5% copper.

Updated Alloy Formula (per 1000g Batch)

Initially all of my models were made using Model Metal from Prince August. Eventually however I have began mixing my own metal. If you would like to use my formula, here is the process:

Lead (Pb): 540g (54%)
Bismuth (Bi): 350g (35%)
Tin (Sn): 110 g (11%)
I order my metal from Metal Shipper and have had good success with them. I purchase either the shot or granules for easy melting.

Melting Procedure

Melt Lead (Pb) in a clean, dry crucible at ~350°C.
Add Bismuth (Bi) slowly while stirring, allow to fully integrate.
Add Tin (Sn) and stir until the alloy is homogenous.
Skim any dross, let the alloy rest for 1 minute or so before pouring then pour into your bar or other mold. This recipe will create about 1000 grams of metal which is enough to make 7-10 bars of metal. Each bar should be around 100-125g. Try not to make them too large so that you can quickly melt them. I use a 24 count mini muffin pan and fill each spot about half full. So not really bars, more like what the vintage kits called "Pigs"

Note that I typically will melt 2000g at a time.
